As part of a major ongoing refurbishment, Kendal Nutricare contacted GSS to install a completely new polyurethane resin floor system in the main manufacturing plant in Kendal. As the areas had so much existing plant and equipment fixed to the floor, and minimal downtime in production was crucial, a full strip out of both the plant and existing floor tiles before the new floor installation was not feasible. Any loose or broken tiles had to be replaced with a high-strength epoxy screed, before substrate preparation and priming using a two-part, specialised moisture-tolerant primer.

New perimeter resin coving was installed 100mm high to all walls and plinths and sealed with a clear polyurethane resin. Stairs and vertical plinths were rendered and coved to ensure all exposed concrete was completely covered and sealed.

The new 9mm polyurethane floor screed was then installed to the total floor area, finishing flush with the base of the cove and drain gullies. This was particularly challenging with all the manufacturing plant, low-level pipework and equipment in place.
