Kendal Nutricare Gets a Flooring Upgrade from GSS!
Here at GSS, we were thrilled to partner with Kendal Nutricare on a major upgrade to their main manufacturing plant in Kendal. As part of a big refurbishment project, they needed a brand new polyurethane resin floor system, and we were happy to help!
A Tricky Challenge: New Floors, No Downtime
This wasn’t your average flooring job! The plant had tons of existing machinery and equipment fixed right to the floor. Plus, it was super important to keep production going with as little interruption as possible. So, a full strip-out of everything just wasn’t an option.
Our solution? We carefully replaced any loose or broken existing floor tiles with a really strong epoxy screed. This gave us a solid, level base to work on. Then, we got the subfloor perfectly ready, using a special two-part moisture-tolerant primer to make sure the new floor would bond perfectly and last for ages.
Seamless and Super Clean
To make sure the new floor was as clean and hygienic as possible – which is crucial for a manufacturing plant – we installed new perimeter resin coving. This is like a seamless curve that goes up the walls and around any equipment bases, 100mm high. We sealed it all with a clear polyurethane resin, creating a really smooth finish that’s easy to clean and won’t trap any dirt. We even coved the stairs and vertical concrete areas, making sure everything was completely covered and sealed.
Expert Installation Around Equipment
Finally, we installed the brand new 9mm polyurethane floor screed across the entire floor area. This durable flooring finishes perfectly flush with the coving and drain gullies. Installing this type of industrial flooring with so much plant, low-level pipework, and equipment already in place was definitely a challenge, but our team handled it with expertise.
We’re really proud of the new heavy-duty flooring at Kendal Nutricare. It’s a fantastic example of a seamless flooring solution that’s not only incredibly durable and chemical-resistant, but also meets the highest hygiene standards for their busy facility.
