Following on from two previous decorative resin and flake installations at Guernsey’s Leisure Centre in St Peter’s Port, GSS have just finished the largest area to date, all around both main, and children’s pool areas.
The old fabric carpet was removed, leaving up to 15mm of old adhesive and latex on the substrate. This was then removed using Remote control, diamond floor grinders with varying degrees of diamond tooling, from highly aggressive PCT tools, to finer less aggressive diamond grinding heads until the concrete substrate was completely prepared.
New stop trims where fixed in place to separate the new resins from the pools gully drains prior to two applications of an epoxy damp-proof membrane primer.
Resin screed was used to form radial coving to the base of each step and the perimeter of the area.
A base later of a 4mm, self-smoothing epoxy resin screed was then installed prior to a further application of a flexible epoxy coating with the chosen decorative flakes broadcast onto this layer.
Once cured, three applications of a UV stable, chemical and slip resistant seal coat where applied over the flakes to achieve a very durable, decorative non-slip finish.
