GSS Flooring Rolls Out a Sleek New Floor for Touker Suleyman’s Flagship Cycle Store
We were incredibly excited when Touker Suleyman, the well-known investor from BBC’s Dragon’s Den, reached out to GSS! He needed us to specify and install a brand-new resin floor for his impressive new flagship cycle store located in London’s bustling Westfield Shopping Centre.
The Perfect Balance: Smooth, Safe, and Strong
The brief for this project was clear: the floor needed to be super smooth, yet also slip-resistant and incredibly durable. After all, it would face constant, heavy use with all those bikes and customers!
The existing floor actually sat 150mm lower than the main entrance, so our first step was to expertly form a new gradual ramp using a high-strength epoxy screed. This created a seamless transition for easy access. After that, we moved on to meticulous substrate preparation and resin priming to ensure the perfect base for the new floor.
A Seamless, High-Performance Finish
Next up, we installed a 4mm layer of a self-smoothing polyurethane screed across the entire area. This type of commercial flooring creates a beautifully seamless surface that’s not only great to look at but also incredibly hard-wearing.
To ensure easy cleaning and long-term maintenance, we sealed the floor with two coats of a matte, coloured resin seal coat. We also carefully cut back the expansion joints through the cured resins and filled them with flexible polysulphide resins, helping the floor adapt to any movement without cracking.
