Project Description
GSS Flooring won the contract to install the complete resin flooring specification at BAE Systems’ new storage facility on Portsmouth’s Naval Base.
The new power-floated concrete substrate was prepared using the latest remote-control, vacuum assisted, quad headed diamond floor grinders.
The original specification was for the application of high-build, solvent-free epoxy coatings but due to tight time restraints within the project and high moisture readings still in the substrate, GSS put forward an alternative, water-based epoxy system. This type of resin is micro-porous allowing moisture to slowly permeate from the substrate, without effecting the integrity or bond of the resin, or the need for costly resin DPM primers.
Altro Resins’ water-based epoxy primer was applied to the total area prior to two applications of Altrocoat, a two-component, water-based, coloured epoxy coating. A further application was applied in a contrasting colour for the walkways and a thixotropic epoxy resin was used to denote hazard areas, line markings and hatching.
